€9.8m worth of tax settlements were made in the second quarter according to Revenue

A website consultant from Dublin must pay Revenue €888,619 in under declared income tax, as well as interest and penalties as a result of a settlement arising from an audit.

The case, concerning Michael P Doyle from 34 Dartmouth Road in Dublin 6, is the largest on the Revenue tax defaulters list for three month period to the end of June published this afternoon.

By the 30th of June, none of the money agreed in the settlement had been repaid.

The next largest settlement listed for the quarter concerns medical services provider Mediserve Homecare Ltd, with an address at 3 Fitzwilliam Place in Dublin2.

It had to pay Revenue €858,518 following a settlement that arose from an investigation into the under-declaration of corporation tax, PAYE, PRSI, USC and VAT.

€638,798 of that remained unpaid by the end of June.

Colm Rudden, a wholesaler of household goods and alcohol from 16 Bramble Rise, Killynebber, Co Cavan owes Revenue €852,281.

This follows an investigation into the under-declaration of income tax and VAT by the tax authority.

While Noel Turley, a motor vehicle dealer with an address at Mountain North, Athenry, Co Galway, has settled with Revenue over an underdeclaration of VAT following an audit.

He agreed to pay €799,084 and €563,484 of that amount remained outstanding at the end of June.

In Co Wexford, vehicle test centre operator Sean O’Leary of 40 The Faythe in Wexford town, was found to have not declared income tax and under-declared VAT.

His settlement requires him to pay Revenue €705,682 and €671,623 had not been paid by the end of the quarter.

Other sizeable cases listed in this quarter’s list include retired PAYE employee Patrick Greenan of Crosses, Miltown in County Monaghan who had to pay over €533,367 following a Revenue enquiry that revealed the non-declaration of capital gains and income tax.

In Co Cork, an audit which revealed an under-declaration of corporation tax, PAYE, PRSI and USC at the Castletownbere Fisherman’s Co-Operative Society Ltd led to a demand for €216,579.

The fish wholesalers and ship chandlers at Dinish Island in Castletownbere had paid the full amount of unpaid tax, interest and penalties by June 30th.

While consultant radiologist, Ramesh Nagabathula, from 12 Carriglea in Killenard Co Laois has made a settlement with Revenue of €440,444.

It relates to the non-declaration of income tax that came to light during a Revenue investigation.

Mr Nagabathula still owed the tax agency €113,600 at the end of June.

In total the list contains 43 cases where settlements totaling €9.8m were made.

21 of the cases were for amounts above €100,000 with six exceeding €500,000.

Revenue also published a separate list of cases where a court determined a penalty relating to a settlement, or imposed a fine, imprisonment or other penalty as a result of a tax or duty offence.

During the three month period there were nine cases where a court determined penalties, with the total amount to be paid reaching €591,071.

There were a further 176 cases where fines totaling €551,724 were imposed by the courts.

Among those were 96 cases of failure to file a tax, P35 or VAT return or failure to deliver a statement of affairs.

There were also 38 cases where marked mineral oil was found to have been misused.

In some of those instances, sentences were also handed down to the people involved.
