Bank of Ireland customers targeted in new email scam

BANK of Ireland customers have been targeted in an email scam looking for their bank details.

The scam email claims that during account maintenance, the bank detected an error in the account holders information.
In the email, complete with Bank of Ireland logo, the customer is then asked to confirm their bank account details.

The bank said today that it never contacts customers asking them for information online or by phone.

“Bank of Ireland strongly urges customers in receipt of phishing or suspicious emails never to click on any link as doing so may enable the download of malicious software that may have the capacity to collect and compromise personal details and defraud bank accounts,” it said in a statement.

“Bank of Ireland never contacts customers asking them provide full personal log on details either over the phone or online.”
