Technology firm Popertee has walked away with first prize in the Wayra UK pitch contest at the TechConnect Live showcase at the RDS.
Six finalists had been selected to participate in the live Dragons’ Den-style pitch – all with the ambition to see their business selected to access technology incubator Wayra and Telefónica’s vast network of investors, coaches, mentors and customers.
Popertee – which opened at the beginning of 2016 in Ireland – has secured three months of pre-acceleration in Wayra UK’s London Academy, including free office space.
The fledgling firm intends to launch an audience optimisation tool this year that assists their pop-up customers in finding the perfect location based on the demographics they are looking to target. They will cover a number of cities and allow brands to factor in footfall, age and sex.
The five other finalists included Local-Dublin, Sitepassport, Planetjuno, Popertee, Nuvolaria and Santifly.
More than 200 startups attended TechConnect Live to meet investors and sell to more than 1,500 technology purchasers. Speakers included Louise Phelan of Paypal, Kieran Harte of Uber and Luis Franco of Survey Monkey.
Wayra UK has previously invested in over 30 Irish startups through its former academy in Ireland and has helped them raise over €21m in third-party funds since 2012.
Some of the Wayra UK’s previous graduates in Ireland included Brightflag, Fundrecs and Salesoptimize. Trustev, another graduate of Wayra UK, was sold for $44m in 2015.
