Controversial airline boss Michael O’Leary has offered to build a third terminal worth €200m at Dublin Airport, it has been reported.
The offer bears similar hallmarks to the construction of Terminal 2 six years ago. During the construction of the second terminal Mr O’Leary clashed with the airport’s manager, the DAA, over the design and cost of the new building.
According to a report in The Irish Times, Mr O’Leary offered to build another terminal while speaking at a gathering that included Government ministers.
It is understood a third terminal may be needed to deal with increased passenger numbers at the Capital’s airport and Mr O’Leary wants the DAA to have no hand in it.
The report said Mr O’Leary made the remarks when speaking at a Fine Gael business breakfast last week, which had finance minister Michael Noonan in attendance.
