Lidl to add 100 new jobs as company prepares to roll out four new stores

German supermarket chain Lidl is to add 100 new jobs at four new stores set to open over the coming months.

Lidl is to open a second store in Swords next week with another in Glenageary slated to open in early December. A further two stores will be added in Carbra and Portmarnock, both of which are under construction and due to open in spring 2017.
The firm also has its eye on two locations in Shankill and Castleknock with planning applications in for both.

The new stores and jobs add to the company’s contribution to the Irish economy over the last 16 years, which is estimated to be around €1.5bn.
Managing director JP Scally said Lidl has actively sought to expand its footprint in Dublin.

“Currently we have 34 locations in the city and county and are looking forward to this increasing substantially over the next year. In July we announced plans to hire an additional 600 jobs over the next 2 years and many of these will be for our new stores in Dublin.
“We look forward to these 4 stores opening in the short term and many more in the future also as we seek to expand our footprint in the capital city and the rest of the county.”
