Galway marina on 20-acre site offers ‘excellent potential’

Two years on from securing €1.7m for the 7.8-acre Lough Derg Marina in Killaloe, Co. Clare, agents CBRE are offering prospective buyers an opportunity to acquire an established private marina facility in Galway.

Located just 12km from the town of Portumna, Cloondavaun Bay Marina extends along 885 metres of the Lough Derg shoreline and sits on an overall site of approximately 20 acres.

The existing development comprises a 50-berth marina, a large boat warehouse (2,230 sq m), workshop, facilities building, offices, fuel depot, stables and four-bedroom detached house.

There is scope, according to the vendors, to extend the marina to include an additional 70 to 100 boat berths.

There is also potential to convert the large attic space in the four-bedroom house to provide additional bedrooms at first-floor level.

Commenting on the property, CBRE director of development land Robert Colleran said: “This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a marina with excellent potential.”

Mr Colleran believes the Cloondavaun marina site would be suited (subject to the appropriate planning permission being obtained) to a mixed development incorporating private and public berthing, cruiser rental, leisure and water-related activities. The development could also potentially accommodate holiday and family homes, a glamping village, caravan park or a small hotel.
